Gelato Festival 2014, Florence
The 2014 Florence Gelato Festival opens on the 1st of March,
until the 4th of March, at Palazzo dei Congressi gardens, opposite the Santa
Maria Novella station. The Gelato Festival then leaves Florence for a full
tour, in ten locations in Italy and five in Europe. Tourists have the
opportunity to discover the history, background and future of gelato with
Buontalenti, the biggest home-made gelato mobile lab ever built in the world.
The event started in 2010 in Florence with the idea of celebrating the
Florentine origins of gelato and showing it to the world, as Caterina de’
Medici did during the Renaissance when she went to France to marry Henry II of
Valois. The creation of gelato is attributed to Bernardo Buontalenti, working
for the Medici family in 1559.
At the end of the four days in Florence, the
Best Italian gelato Parlour 2014 will be elected. 10 gelato parlours are taking
part, all of which won this title in 2013 in Florence, Milan, Turin and Rome.
The Gelato Festival is an ambassador of Italian gelato. The 2014 Gelato
Festival joins together more than a hundred gelato parlours who are all ready
to take part in creative taste competitions in some of the prettiest locations
on the continent from May through to August. It’s a European mobile show
telling you all about gelato, its creation, the best ingredients, how it’s
produced and the background to this sector.
A ticket for only $10 EU gets you 5 tickets for a pretty
good size tasting of 5 unique flavors. And if you still need more (it's
probable you will, with all of these choices), you can get a recharge. AAAAHHH~~~who could resist the temptation?? I want it ALL!
